Hi there!
I'm Jessica Oberlin
After decades of private violin lessons with famous classical teachers, a degree in violin performance from Northwestern's Bienen School of Music, and experience performing in concert halls and on national TV around the world, I can say I learned A LOT about violin, and I also performed with some incredible people.
Yet, when non-classical friends wanted me to play with a band and all they had were chord charts, or chamber musicians wanted to sit down for a light-hearted evening sight-reading music, I found it difficult and frustrating. I realized I had focused on perfecting concertos and recital pieces, but had neglected to fully cultivate "conversational" music skills.
Today I teach both adults and children to play the violin with excellent classical position and technique, while also emphasizing rapid sight-reading and the basics of improv, so that even if you're a beginner, you can take your violin with you and have "musical conversations" with people anywhere.
